Fortnite is rolling out a surprising new crossover with a classic anime series, adding some new Kicks to the game based on Yu-Gi-Oh. The massively popular battle royale has featured no shortage of crossover content based on a wide variety of pop culture franchises, ranging from TV shows and movies to beloved musicians. Recent crossovers have brought everything from Power Rangers and Beavis & Butthead to popular figures like Kai Cenat and John Cena to Fortnite among others. Now, Epic Games has introduced an unexpected new collaboration to the game.
Anime has been one of the most popular sources for many of Fortnite‘s crossovers, including a plethora of fan-favorite animated series from Japan. Fortnite‘s anime collabs have featured some of the most beloved series of all-time, with fan-favorites like Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, and My Hero Academia being introduced as skins. The battle royale has even often added special weapons to the game for its anime crossovers, allowing fans to flex iconic attacks like Goku’s “Kamehameha” and “Deku’s Smash.” Fortnite‘s most recent collaboration is now introducing some surprise Yu-Gi-Oh content.
A recent update to Fortnite‘s in-game shop officially saw the introduction of a brand-new Yu-Gi-Oh cosmetic for players to pick up. The crossover content comes in the form of a new Kicks cosmetic, with the “Nike Air Max 95 Yu-Gi-Oh! Jounichi” shoes modeled after the appearance of supporting character Joey Wheeler’s shoes. The Kicks also feature another subtle nod to its inspiration, with the Yu-Gi-Oh! logo emblazoned into the soles of the shoes. Fans can pick up the Yu-Gi-Oh-themed Kicks for a limited time, available for 1,000 V-Bucks until September 26 at 8:00 P.M. local time.
Fortnite Adds Unexpected Yu-Gi-Oh Crossover Cosmetics
The unexpected crossover with Yu-Gi-Oh comes as the franchise was one of several that has been rumored to be added to the battle royale. Recent leaks have hinted at multiple future crossovers planned to come to Fortnite, with smash-hit Netflix movie K-Pop Demon Hunters among the biggest properties. Multiple fan-favorite games have also seen rumors about upcoming collaborations with the beloved shooter, including potential crossover with The Binding of Isaac and REPO.
Yu-Gi-Oh isn’t the only popular anime to receive crossover content during Fortnite‘s Chapter 6 Season 4, with another beloved series preceding it. Fortnite officially added its first collaboration with One Punch Man during the ongoing season, introducing new skins based on Saitama, Genos, and Tatsumaki. Saitama also received his own Medallion within the “Blitz Royale” game mode, granting a powerful instant-kill ability when using the Pickaxe offensively. Fans of Yu-Gi-Oh can hope that Fortnite‘s new Kicks are just a precursor to even more exciting crossover content to come.
